The gospel demonstrates that we are all deeply loved by God and that truth changes everything of us both today and for eternity.
The gospel of Jesus Christ is called the “good news” and it is particularly good news for our sin and struggle. The gospel simply is that God himself has come to rescue and restore creation in and through the work of Jesus Christ on our behalf.
Why do we need the Gospel of Jesus? Because of the sin living in each of us. This sin wants us to live for our own glory and desires instead of God’s. Sin forces us to live in bondage versus living in the freedom of Jesus. All have sinned and fall short of God’s glory, which is why we desperately need the gospel of Jesus to rescue us from the penalty of sin and death—which is eternal separation from the love of Jesus. The good news is that Jesus has provided a way out through His death, taking our sin and shame. His burial, bringing our sin to the grave. His resurrection, giving us new life by defeating death and sin. His return, providing our hope for an eternal rest in and with Him. Through Jesus’ acts, we have been restored to right relationship with God the Father when we repent and believe in Jesus. This is the good news for all!
Gospel Power and Purpose
The power of the gospel shows us the good news of how Jesus has defeated (past dimension), is defeating (present dimension), and will finally defeat sin, death, and evil (future dimension). It gives us purpose in our everyday lives as God chooses to work in and through us. One day we will see the ultimate purpose of God is to make all things new, including us for the sake of His glory. (Genesis 3; John 7:38 Romans 1:16; Romans 3:21-26; 5:1-2; 6:6-7; Ephesians 1:3; 1 Peter 1:3-5; Revelation 21:3-5)
From the great commission, we see Paul going and planting churches in cities and towns. Once he had planted a new church he could say, “I have fulfilled the ministry of the gospel of Christ” Romans 15:19. When we plant new churches we are fulfilling the call of Christ and following in the methods of the apostle Paul to reach more people with the gospel of Jesus.
